Introduction

Once a defense analyst said,” war benefits only to those who have desire to increase their power”. It is true for every war because big-powers get nothing except power. Russia-Ukraine crisis is a similar situation where Russia is trying to regain its power through total-war. In cold war era, the USSR was fragmented into small states and Russia considered as a new form of USSR—Ukraine and Algeria are one these small states. In 21st century, these states tried to establish their relations with western players—the USA and EU. Such relations with Russian rivals were a threat to its security and it tried a lot to avert their relations and also warned neighbor states. However, in 2022, Russia invaded Ukraine to end such relations and security threat. Ukraine was also trying to get the membership of NATO to strengthen its security but it was not acceptable for Russia at all. Thus, Ukraine’s efforts to get NATO membership for its security are prime reason for this war. Thus, until its settlement, there would be no peace in the region because every war has consequences far beyond the borders.

Conclusion

In a nutshell, it has been discussed that Ukraine’s pro-US and EU approach is a basic reason behind this war. It also started because Russia and Ukraine had security concerns; Ukraine was trying to promote its security through western alliances and NATO membership while Russia was overseeing it and it was unacceptable for its national interest. Additionally, Russian did not want American presence at the doorstep—it was a security threat for Russia. However, this war would end if both countries come to table-talk and remove their conflict without any western influence. In this way, both –Russia and Ukraine- could stop the region from any bigger disaster.
