The current electoral situation fueled the fire for an already unstable and struggling country's political structure. Usually, one side's win is a loss for the other side, but the reverse game happens because certain personalities take sudden turns. Whereas, rejections of votes; deputy Speaker's rulings; supreme court awaiting decision; public protests are yet to come in upcoming episodes of this political drama.
However, the coalition government will continue till August 2023. Meanwhile, the opposition will continue to demand general elections. The election commission of Pakistan and the supreme court's decision in this regard is essential. The power game is leading to increasing uncertainty. In lack of consensus between the opposition and Government on interim arrangements, the matter would be under the control of the Election Commission of Pakistan (Article 224-A).
It is time to take serious steps because this political instability is causing a severe economic crisis. Temporarily a staff-level agreement has been reached with IMF. It is a good step for the market's sentiments. The declining value of the rupee is adding to inflation and eroding the confidence of many. A sharp rise in fuel cost is like an insult to injury. This economic condition urges an end to political turmoil and calls for economic management in this unstable situation economic battle for Pakistan is more important to win. Otherwise, this lust for power and ongoing political and economic suffering will give birth to a tsunami of public protests.
